Yoga-Vaasishth

Yoga-Vaasishth is based mainly on the spiritual knowledge (aadhyatmik-gyan or tattva-gyan) given by the sage (Maharshi) Vasishth to Shri Ram during his youth in Treta Yug. Yoga-Vaasishth is the highest poetic scripture in Sanskrit available on Mahrishi Vasishth’s teachings. It was written by Mahrishi Vaalmiki, who also wrote the word’s first poetic scripture in Sanskrit, Ramayana.  Yoga-Vaasishth is also known by many other names, like ‘Maha-Ramayana’, ‘Arsh-Ramayana’, ‘Vaasishth-Ramayana’, ‘Gyan-Vaasishth’, ‘Vaasishth’ and ‘Mokshopaay’. Because of the immense depth with which the subject of spiritual knowledge is dealt with in this scripture (Granth), it is placed at par with the Upnishads. But its language is not as difficult as that of the Upnishads. Moreover, it describes the complex aspects of spiritual knowledge with examples and analogies, which makes it less difficult than Upnishads.

A humble attempt has been made to identify and extract some very important points of spiritual knowledge from Yoga-Vaasishth and present them here as short articles. These are based on “Sankshipt Yoga-Vaasishth”, Code 574, Gita Press, Gorakhpur
